How Keystone Science School's work impacts Summit County residents/environment

KSS supports Summit County residents by providing accessible outdoor and science education that benefits both families and the local environment. Programs like Summit Day Camp give children safe, enriching summer experiences while offering working parents reliable childcare, made more affordable through local family discounts and scholarship funds. Through hands-on learning in nature during both the summer and school year, youth build confidence, curiosity, and a deeper understanding of local ecosystems. By fostering meaningful connections to the outdoors, we help cultivate the next generation of environmental stewards committed to protecting Summit County’s forests, wildlife, and watersheds for years to come.

How community members can support or participate

Community members can support our work in a variety of ways. During the summer, families can enroll their children in KSS summer camp, available for children K-12. During the school year, all Summit County School District third-grade students will participate in our Summit Mountain Eco program, spending a day out on our local trails learning in nature. Residents and local businesses can also contribute by volunteering, sponsoring programs, attending a KSS event, or making a donation to help expand access for local youth and families. By engaging with our programs and investing in our mission, community members help ensure that Summit County’s youth have opportunities to learn, grow, and develop a lifelong connection to the outdoors.
