FDRD's Mission

Friends of the Dillon Ranger District’s mission is to engage our community and support the US Forest Service’s Dillon Ranger District in stewardship through: adult and youth education and diverse volunteer programs, to preserve and enhance our public lands.

How FDRD's work impacts Summit County residents/environment

Summit County and its public lands are the most visited in the country, tallying millions of visitors each year. This huge amount of visitors takes a significant toll on our trails and public lands, requiring a large amount of maintenance to keep our recreational opportunities world-class. FDRD provides a way for residents of Summit County and trail users to give back and contribute to keeping our lands pristine. This could include helping out on the trails physically, participating in programs to educate the general public like Ranger Patrol or volunteering with us at outreach events, or volunteering with us for our many events throughout the year. If you like to hike, bike, backpack, camp, 4-wheel, or just be outside, our work will directly impact your recreation enjoyment. FDRD also provides free, year-round, outdoor education for youth and adults. We believe that the more you know about your natural surroundings, the more you will appreciate the beauty of nature and respect the relationship that we all share with our natural world. 

How community members can support or participate

Folks can check out our event calendar and sign up for an education, social, or fundraising event, OR volunteer with us on a trail project, outreach event, or other opportunities. There are lots of ways to get involved and support us, and if you want to support but aren't in town or don't feel up to working out on the trails, generous donations are always welcome and help us keep our programming and events free and open to the public.
